Cambridge Jazz Festival Will Kick Off New Initiative To Support Students with Musical Aspirations

Working closely with the Cambridge Community Foundation, the Cambridge Jazz Festival will launch a new initiative to be named The Johnny Hodges Fund. The Fund is intended to support Cambridge students with musical aspirations. The initiative will provide resources for musical education and performance opportunities for Cambridge students.

“Johnny Hodges, a Cambridge native, was one of the world’s greatest alto sax players and performed for many years with Duke Ellington,” said Larry Ward, the Festival’s executive director. “This Fund honors his achievement and recognizes that extraordinary musical talent lives and grows in our community—talent that we need to nurture and support.”

The Fund will initially be managed by the Cambridge Community Foundation. To donate to the Fund, please visit http://www.cambridgejazzfestival.org for details.

About The Festival: The Cambridge Jazz Festival will take place on Sidney Street on July 27, 2014 from 12-6 pm. This free event features nationally known jazz artists along with local students and musicians. To learn more, visit cambridgejazz.festival.org or subscribe to the Festival’s newsletter.
